Cuff Modification on Showa 282 Glove
The Showa 282 is a bright blue waterproof and insulated glove. It has gained cult-like lore in the ice climbing world as a great option. The company caught wind of this and created a new model, the black 282-02 that included a sinchable cuff or gauntles that allows you to seal the glove down against your jacket to prevent snow getting in.
The Blue 282 is readily available and retails for £22 or so in the UK. The Black 282-02 is currently only available from Go2Marine in the USA for $28. I have enquired with UK resellers of Showa products about whether they can begin stocking it, aparrently it is not possible.

To import a pair of the black 282-02 from the USA costs around £50 after shipping and import fees.
I have seen them for sale in Chamonix, presumably imported from the USA for €65.
The Black 282-02 Glove, available in the USA for $28.24, a cracking deal for the glove until you get the import bill.
Given that I now have a sewing machine in the workshop again, I decided to take matters into my own hand and modify the significantly cheaper (and available in the UK) Blue 282 glove to include a sinching gauntlet.
My sewing skills are next to non-existent. So if I can do it, any cheap sod with a sewing machine can do it to. These measurements are for the size 9 (Large). Take 1cm off the length for the size 8 (Medium).
